The First Post
In an act of desperation I had to create this blog.
Because I want to win a contest. Yes. Pathetic. But it's for Island Expeditions. And Belize.
They are having a contest... they want people to send them stories about their trips with IE to Belize and then for each story, I get a chance to win an iPad. Ya I know... I don't really want one, and I'm not a huge fan of Apple (my two iPods not withstanding). But more importantly for each entry, IE will donate a laptop computer to a Belize school. This I like.
I used to have a website called "thebikeroom.ca" where I recorded all my stories ands some pictures. But it was a pain in the ass to manage and I let it slide. The Belize trip story was originally posted there. In fact, I think it was the reason thebikeroom.ca was first created. Anyway I still had the code and the Belize story, so I just copied it over to Blogger and have created this little piece of the Google universe for me. And whoever else wants to enjoy. Hope you do.
As anyone who knows me knows, I like to travel and Belize is very high on my list of favourite places in the world. This was the trip that started that love affair with the country. I went there not really knowing anything about the place, and I think that open mind was why I loved it so much and I have been back twice since 2005, to different parts of the country, and I still have not had enough. The people are amazing. Beautiful, friendly and smiling all the time. The landscape is amazing, and the people want to take care of it. There is a rich Mayan history to the country, that I did not really know about before getting there, but which has fascinated me ever since.
